Hornsby and the surrounding Upper North Shore suburbs sit among some of Sydney’s thickest bushland and tree canopy. That makes for beautiful streets, but it’s hard on paint. Shaded walls stay damp, leaves block gutters, and mould and mildew come back fast on surfaces that were painted without the right preparation.

What Hornsby homes need
Mould and damp
South-facing walls and anything under trees can stay damp for days. Mould is treated and washed off, surfaces are left to dry properly, and exterior paints with a mould-resistant film are used. Painting straight over mould is the most common reason exterior paint fails here.
Timber and weatherboard
Many homes have weatherboard, timber windows and decks that move with the weather. Loose paint is scraped back, bare timber is primed, and joints are filled with a flexible sealant so the new paint doesn’t crack along every board.
Steep blocks and access
Sloping blocks and two-storey homes on the high side of the street often need scaffolding or extra ladder work, which is planned and priced up front.
Bushfire-prone land
Much of the Hornsby area is bushfire-prone land. If you’re replacing decking or cladding, check the requirements with council. For repainting, we keep gutters and roof lines clear as part of the job.

GOOD TO KNOW
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Hornsby?
A single-storey, three-bedroom brick home usually costs $6,000 to $9,500 to paint outside. Weatherboard homes cost more, often $7,500 to $13,000, and steep blocks that need scaffolding add to that.
Why does mould keep coming back on my walls?
Shaded, south-facing walls under trees stay damp, and paint applied over live mould fails quickly. Mould needs to be killed and washed off, the surface dried, and a paint with a mould-resistant film applied. Trimming back overhanging trees helps too.
Can you paint or stain my deck?
Yes. Decks are cleaned, sanded where needed and coated with a decking oil or paint suited to the timber. Our guide to painting decks explains the options.
